Radio listeners were duped on April 1st by an
April Fools Day broadcast reporting that a
cardboard replica of Rms Titanic was sailing
along the Sussex coast.
Hundreds of people climbed the cliffs armed
with binoculars and those with boats went out
for a better look.
The radio station Brighton based Southern FM
finaly owned up to the hoax at midday.
The Coastguard where less than impressed and
where concerned for the safety of the public
who crowded the cliffs to catch sight of the
reported lifesize model.
Commenting latter Lifeboatman Eddie Buckland
said : "People should have realised this was a
hoax but you know the English , they`ll believe
anything."
